Titre:
Coding the Teichmüller flow by veering triangulations
Resumé:
Since the work of Rauzy and Veech, a great deal of effort has been
directed at finding suitable combinatorial schemes (or "codings") to
study the Teichmüller flow. In this talk, I will present a new
coding leveraging the theory of veering triangulations. After finding a
reasonable notion of “irreducibility”, the
connected components of the resulting automata (induced by edge flips)
are in a one-to-one correspondence with the components of the moduli
space of quadratic differentials. Moreover, the coding has bounded
distortion, which makes it conductive to study the dynamical properties
of the Teichmüller flow. This is joint work with Mark Bell,
Vincent Delecroix, Vaibhav Gadre and Saul Schleimer.
